The USS Badoeng Strait was a carrier built by the United States Navy to serve in the Korean War. The ship was after the place of an important Second World War battle between the United States and Japan naval forces. USS Badoeng Strait was sponsored by Mrs. T. H. Binford, wife of Captain Binford. The carrier was initially named San Alberto Bay, to be renamed to USS Badoeng Strait later. The USS Badoeng Strait was launched on the 15th of February 1945, and commissioned to active service on the 14th of November, the same year. The ship was stationed in the Pacific Fleet for most of her active service, ordered by her commander and the Jr. in command, Captain Thomas A. Turner.
The USS Badoeng Strait received six battle stars for her service in the Korean War, and was overhauled twice during her active service, with only minor modifications. Here is the list of characteristics as built:
Similar to other Navy war ships, the USS Badoeng Strait contained large amounts of asbestos on board. The fact that at the time no one knew the dangers of this mineral increased the risk even more, because most of the asbestos on board was a very dangerous type of material. When even the smallest damage was done to the friable asbestos materials, they released deadly particles, which could have been easily swallowed or inhaled by officers and enlisted crew members.
We recommend contacting a specialized doctor first in order to receive a clear diagnosis. After the doctor is certain that you are suffering from an asbestos disease, you can contact an asbestos attorney and he will evaluate your case after you provide him with all appropriate legal and medical documents to attest the illness. You can decide together if it would be wise to act in a court of law.
