The USS Monterey was commissioned to active service on the 17th of June 1943 and received eleven battle stars for her actions during the Second World War The ship never carried jet engine aircraft or helicopters during active service, because such technology was not yet available at the time. The USS Monterey was involved in several important battles during the war, where she proved worthy of the United States Navy fleet. USS Monterey was finally decommissioned on the 16th of January 1956, being sold for scrap a few years later. These are the ships’ main characteristics:

Asbestos on the USS Monterey has serious consequences

The main cause of severe disease between the crew members of United States Navy ships was asbestos exposure. The ships were built using several types of materials with high asbestos content because, at the time, asbestos was not considered deadly. It is possible that some of the former crew members of the USS Monterey have suffered from asbestos related diseases, although no official records have been found. If you are a former crew member on United States Navy ships built during World War II we recommend that you visit a doctor for further analysis.
