Asbestos on board the USS Ranger has serious consequences

Along side problems that have been common on board United States Navy ships, crew members faced another grave danger. They were all exposed to the risk of being infected with asbestos. This type of material was commonly used on board ships for numerous different purposes, such as insulation or fireproofing in key areas of the ship. As opposed to the positive characteristics, asbestos fibers are very dangerous for human health when inhaled or swallowed. Some of the crew members on board the USS Ranger were, in fact, victims of an asbestos related disease.
