This is the famous ship sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor, on the 7th of December 1941. It has been transformed into a memorial ever since, being one of the first ships to be declared a national historical landmark.
Here is a short list of the ship’s characteristics:
The USS Arizona was ordered on the 4th of March 1913 and launched two years later. It has served until the 7th of December 1941, when it was sunk by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. There were 1177 lives lost during that attack. That very attack was the one that brought the United States into World War II. USS Arizona was left lying on the bottom of the harbor after she was sank and still lies there today, being part of the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The site of the memorial is visited by thousands of people each year. She was built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where several other important vessels have been constructed.
The crew members on board the USS Arizona have been constantly exposed to asbestos, fortunately no survivors of her sinking reported to suffer from any kind of asbestos-related disease. Only a handful of former crew members are still alive, and none of them are showing any kind of signs of asbestos related diseases.
People working at the shipyard that built the ship were also exposed to asbestos regularly, and with no protection whatsoever. These workers were only exposed to small asbestos fiber amounts and thus, none of them developed health problems that could have been associated with exposure to the dangerous mineral.
If you have been exposed to asbestos on this ship and have developed a medical condition as a result you may be entitled to some form of compensation. You can only contact a specialized mesothelioma or asbestos attorney that could evaluate your case. After the very careful examination of your situation the lawyer will present the legal options you could think about.
