USS Nevada was the second ship to be named in honor of the 36th state. She was ordered on the 4th of March 1911, built by the Fore River Shipbuilding Company. The USS Nevada was commissioned into active service on the 11th of March 1916. With a total cost of almost 6 million US Dollars, the vessel received 7 battle stars until the 29th of August 1946, when she was decommissioned. Her final resting place is on the bottom of the Pearl Harbor bay, being used as a target for the USS Iowa and three other ships. The ships did not manage to sink the Nevada, but an underwater torpedo delivered the final blow.
The USS Nevada was built to the following specifications:
The ships built prior to World War II used a lot of asbestos materials to insulate and fireproof vital components. This created an asbestos rich environment in which all of the ship’s crew members were working in. We can say for sure that all of them were exposed to asbestos, but none of them died as a result. Only a few former crew members have recently reported some health problems, but we can’t say for sure if they were caused by asbestos or not.
If you are a former crew member or officer and have served on board the USS Nevada, you should visit a doctor and get a diagnosis. Symptoms exhibited by people that have been exposed to asbestos are not specific to the diseases asbestos causes, and only a thorough medical examination. If the complete checkup reveals any health problems that could be related to asbestos exposure, we recommend having an evaluation of your case performed by a professional asbestos lawyer. He will ensure 90 percent chances of success in an eventual trial.
Do not hesitate to contact an asbestos expert when and if you require more information. We will provide with accurate data at no cost at all.
