USS New Jersey, nick named “Big J” or “Black Dragon”, is the only American ship that provided support for ground troops in the Vietnam War. By this she was able to receive more battle stars than any other ship of the United States Navy, totaling 19 awards.

USS New Jersey was ordered on the 1st of July 1939 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, and was commissioned in active service for the first on the 23rd of May 1942.
