The United States battleship named the USS New York was built by the Brooklyn Navy Yard, being sponsored by Elsie Calder. USS New York was the lead ship in her class, from which the USS Texas was also part of. Construction on the vessel began on the 11th of September 1911, and was finished on the 30th of October 1912. The USS New York was commissioned to active service some two years later, on the 15th of April 1914. During the service she provided in the Second World War, she received three battle stars. The ship was decommissioned on the 29th of August 1946. The fate of USS New York was to be sunk intentionally during practice maneuvers of the United States Navy after her decommissioning. The specifications she was built to are as follows:
Any one that served on board the USS New York was potentially exposed to a high and regularly received dose of asbestos. This was done by damaged asbestos materials used to insulate or fireproof the ships’ vital components. Several of the former crew members accused severe health problems, but doctors could not trace the cause back to asbestos poisoning at the time, because asbestos was not known as a dangerous material. There are no official records of these people, but family members state that they have suffered from diseases that could have been caused by asbestos exposure.
If you are in the situation of suffering from asbestos diseases, and can not seem to be able to pay for medical bills, contacting an asbestos attorney might be the help you need. You will need to provide your attorney with all official medical records and documents in order for the attorney to file a claim in your name. Make sure that you do this as soon as possible.
Please feel free to contact an asbestos expert at any point to receive free information.
