The USS Oklahoma was the only United States battleship to be named in honor of the 46th state. She was a ship made to suit the requirements of the First World War, and was part of a group from which the USS Nevada was also part of. The USS Oklahoma was the leading ship in this group. Work on the Oklahoma started on the 26th of October 1912, and finished almost two years later, on the 23rd of March 1914. The USS Oklahoma was commissioned in active service on the 2nd of May 1916, and decommissioned on the 1st of September 1944, after being fatally damaged in the attack on Pearl Harbor. She is set along side the Missouri in Pearl Harbor as a memorial since 2007.
During her World War II service the USS Oklahoma received one battle star. The vessel was mainly used for support of people carrier convoys and after that, she was included in the Scouting Fleets of the northern Pacific. Here are some of her main characteristics:
On board the Oklahoma 429 of her crew members died in the attack on Pearl Harbor. Other than that, no other people lost their lives on board the ship. No former surviving crew member reported to exhibit asbestos related disease symptoms. This is surprising, because fireproofing and insulation materials on board the ship all contained friable asbestos.
If you or a loved one that was a member of the crew on board the USS Oklahoma has been exposed to asbestos and developed a severe disease as a result of the exposure, you are advised to visit a doctor and receive a complete examination. If the disease is discovered by the doctors’ analysis you can contact an attorney and undertake legal actions. You could be entitled to a large amount as compensation awarded to you by the jury.
Please feel free to contact an asbestos expert if you have any questions. We will answer them accurately and with no cost at all.
