The USS Pennsylvania was part of a three ship group from the same class of battleship. The Pennsylvania was the third America battleship of the Navy to be named in honor of the state. Construction started on the 27th of October 191, in the dry dock of the Newport News Shipbuilding company. Being sponsored by Elizabeth Kolb, the USS Pennsylvania was launched the 16th of March 1915, and commissioned in to active duty on the 12th of June, one year later. Until the 29th of August 1946, when she was decommissioned, the USS Pennsylvania received eight battle stars for her performance in the Second World War The commander on board was Henry B. Wilson.
