USS BOISE CL 47 CRUISER

The United States Navy cruiser named after the capital city of the state of Idaho, the USS Boise, was a Brooklyn class light cruiser. Sponsored by Miss Salome Clark, daughter of Governor Clark of Idaho, construction on the cruiser started on the 1st of April 1935 and ended on the 3rd of September the next year. Under direct command of Captain Benjamin Vaughan McCandlish, the ship was commissioned to active service on the 12th of August 1938. During her acive service, USS Boise also served for the Argentinian Navy, after she was sold. As a United States Navy active cruiser, USS Boise received eleven battle stars for her duty during the Second World War She had to undergo repairs, after striking one uncharted island. She was decommissioned from the United States Navy and sold to Argentina on the 1s of July 1946. She was eventually scrapped in 1978 from the Argentinian Navy. These were her main characteristics in the United States Navy fleet:

  • 9700 tons displacement
  • 608 feet in overall length
  • 33 and a half knots was her maximum speed during testing trials
  • 868 officers and enlisted served on the USS Boise
  • Medium sized arsenal
