It is widely known today that the natural occurring mineral known as asbestos is very dangerous for your health. Such knowledge was not available when USS Cleveland was built, which means that builders used a large amount of asbestos containing materials, creating a very hazardous environment on board. Every time one of those materials was damaged it released asbestos fibers, airborne and very easy to be swallowed. There have been some health problems between the crew members that could have been associated with asbestos exposure, but nothing official.
If you are a former crew member of the USS Cleveland you have to know that you may be entitled to some form of compensation as a result of your wrongful exposure to asbestos on board the ship.
