A Baltimore class heavy cruiser, USS Fall River was named after the city of Fall River, Massachusetts. Sponsored by Mrs. Alexander C. Murray, wife of the mayor of Fall River, USS Fall River was built by New York Shipbuilding Corporation of Camden, New Jersey. Construction commenced on the 12th of April 1943, being ordered on the 9th of July, one year before. USS Fall River was finished on the 13th of August 1944. The ship entered active service on the 1st of July 1945, in time to act in the Second World War She was used mainly for atomic and nuclear tests, and for these tests, she was overhauled to serve as a flagship. USS Fall River was decommissioned on the 31st of October 1947, and struck on the 19th of February 1971. She was later sold for scrap, on the 28th of August 1972. These were her main attributes:
