USS Josephus Daniels was the only ship to bare this name for the Navy Secretary during the First World War and she was built by the Bath Iron Works Company. The keel was laid down on the 23rd of April 1962. Completed on the 2nd of December 1963, USS Josephus Daniels was commissioned to active service some two year later, on the 8th of May 1965. The ship was sponsored by Mrs. Robert M. Woronoff and Mrs. Clyde R. Rich Jr., granddaughters of Josephus Daniels. Nick-named “Joey D”, she was struck and decommissioned on the same date, the 21st of January 1994. The vessel was tore apart and scrapped sometime between her striking and 1999.
