USS LITTLE ROCK CL 92 CRUISER

USS Little Rock was a U. S. Navy Cleveland-class light cruiser that was later converted to a Galveston-class guided missile cruiser (GLG-4).The cruiser launched on 27th August 1944 and commissioned on 17th June 1945, with Captain W. E. Miller in command. The ship performed exercises off the east coast and in the Caribbean, for two months, before sailing for Europe 4 June 1946.There she operated with the 6th Fleet throughout the summer. While operating in the Caribbean, on 18th November 1961, Little Rock was ordered to the waters off Santo Domingo to provide an element of stability during the uncertainty and unrest which plagued that country as rival factions vied to fill the political vacuum created by the assassination of Rafael Trujillo, the president of the Dominican Republic. For the next four years Little Rock annually sailed to the Mediterranean Sea, rejoining the 6th Fleet. On 5th June 1975 the cruiser participated in the ceremonies marking the reopening of the Suez Canal. Little Rock was taken to Buffalo, New York, after her decommissioning in October 1976, where she is open to public touring at the Buffalo Naval & Military Park, being converted to a museum ship.
