USS Trenton was an Omaha-class light cruiser and was launched on 16th April 1923, sponsored by Miss Katherine E. Donnelly; it was commissioned on 19th April 1924 with Captain Edward C. Kalbfus in command. Trenton had a part in the Second World War were she rejoined the Battle Force, becoming an element of CruDiv 3. From 1941 to the middle of 1944, the ship served with the Southeast Pacific Force. During the early part of 1942, Trenton escorted convoys to Bora Bora in the Society Islands where the Navy was constructing a fuel depot. In Octomber 1944, Trenton joined ten destroyers in two sweeps of the northern Kuril Islands as a diversion during the invasion of Leyte. She returned to the Kurils in January 1945 to bombard enemy installation on Paramushiru Island and then resumed Alaskan patrols. Trenton conducted her last offensive operation of the war in June 1945, which consisted of an anti-shipping sweep of the central Kurils. The cruiser encountered no enemy shipping, but the other unit sank five ships of a small convoy. She was placed out of commission on 20th December 1945.
