The third USS Vincennes (CL-64) saw action in the Pacific during the later part of Second World War and was a Cleveland class light cruiser of the United Stated Navy. Originally was laid down on 7th march 1942 as Flint (CL-64) and renamed in 16th October 1942 being sponsored by Mrs. Arthur A. Osborn and launched on 17th July 1943. Commissioned on 21st January 1944 with Captain Arthur Brown in command she sailed to the British West Indies and back on her shakedown cruise. The ship soon became the flagship of Cruiser Division 14th. She served in 1944 Mariana Islands, Philippines, Formosa, Leyte Gulf, in 1945 operated in Japan, Okinawa and also took part at the Operation “Magic Carpet” sailing between Pearl Harbor and west Coast. The cruise was decommissioned on 10th September1946 and never returned to the active service with the Fleet. Vincennes was struck from the navy list on 1st April 1966 and was sunk as a target in experiments with missile.
Here are the ship’s main characteristics as built:
USS Vincennes was build using asbestos material. They have created a dangerous environment in the way that when damaged, these materials released airborne asbestos fibers. The people embarked swallow or inhale the resulting fibers causing, most of the time, serious health problems. It is very important, especially for former crew members of United States Navy ships, to have a complete exam. Do not forget to use appropriate prevention measures.
If you were exposed to asbestos on Vincennes cruise you have to know that the law is on your side. Contact a specialized attorney after you have visited a doctor and received a complete diagnosis sheet. If you explain your situation to your lawyer and provide him with the necessary information and documents about what is known to be the „asbestos cruise” he will then file the claim in your name. In this point you will be one step away from receiving an important amount as compensation, in order to pay for the most effective methods of available treatment.
