SS Abigail Gibbons Areas With Asbestos Exposure

SS Abigail Gibbons

The SS Abigail Gibbons was a Liberty Ship built under a MARCOM contract by J.A. Jones Construction in Brunswick, Georgia. It was sponsored by Mrs. W. Franklin Brown and launched in October 1944. The ship was operated by the Foreign Steamship Corporation and after the war, it was placed in the National Defense Reserve Fleet in Mobile, Alabama. It was acquired by Union Minerals and Alloys Corporation in September 1971 and scrapped. Anyone who has worked onboard the SS Abigail Gibbons or been involved in her repair should be on the alert for signs of asbestos-related diseases and consult a doctor immediately if they experience any associated symptoms. There are certain time limits, called statutes of limitations, during which asbestos claims can be filed - such statutes of limitation could pertain to as little as six months or as long as several years. In other words, you have only a certain amount of time after an asbestos-related diagnosis to file a claim for compensation.
