USS Cepheus (AKA-18)

The USS Cepheus (AKA-18) was an Andromeda-class attack cargo ship launched on October 23, 1943, with the hull number AKA-18. It was commissioned on December 16, 1943, under Capt. R. B. Hall’s command and served in the US Navy for almost 3 years until it was decommissioned on May 22, 1943. It carried a complement of 404 men on board. During this period, the ship operated in the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Theater. For the services brought to the country during World War II, the USS Cepheus received 2 battle stars. Asbestos is an excellent electrical insulator and a highly heat-resistant mineral that was once an ingredient in many different construction materials. Asbestos can be woven into fabrics, and was commonly used as an insulating material in boilers, turbines, pumps, gaskets, and valves, used on naval vessels, due to its heat resistance. If you have been diagnosed with lung cancer, asbestosis, mesothelioma, or another asbestos-related disease, you should seek the assistance of a lawyer as soon as possible. Most states place time limits on filing a claim for compensation, beginning when the asbestos-related illness was diagnosed.
